Dear readers! In June 2026, the chess world will move to the golden beaches of the Adriatic. The Italian city of Montesilvano will host the most prestigious children's and youth competitions on the planet — the FIDE World Youth Chess Championships 2026.
About the Tournament: Battle on the Adriatic Coast
Dates: June 14 – June 27, 2026
This is an official rating championship under the auspices of FIDE and the Italian Chess Federation. The competition will be held in three age categories (under 14, 16 and 18). This is the same tournament where Magnus Carlsen and Jan Nepomniachtchi once started their journey.
Venue: Montesilvano and Pala Dean Martin
The competition will be hosted by the Pala Dean Martin Congress Center, a huge modern congress center named after the famous singer Dean Martin (whose family comes from these places).

Location: The center is located right by the sea.

Infrastructure: Montesilvano is a major tourist hub. A huge number of hotels stand wall to wall, ideal for accommodating thousands of participants, coaches and parents. Nearby is Pescara with its airport and train station.
Participants and conditions

Who plays: The strongest juniors in the world. Each country fields official champions, but the tournament is also open to additional players, provided that they meet FIDE technical requirements.

Rating: The tournament has the highest status. Winning here is a direct path to the title of grandmaster and invitations to top adult tournaments.

Prize Fund: In addition to cups and medals, winners receive the right to participate in subsequent world championships and cash prizes (details are usually in the final regulations before the start).
