Future grandmasters gather in Mukachevo: Ukrainian Chess Championship among children under 8 years old
Spring in Ukraine is a time not only of the awakening of nature, but also of fierce intellectual battles. From May 15 to 23 the picturesque city of Mukachevo, located in Transcarpathia, will turn into the chess capital of Ukraine. It is here that the Ukrainian Chess Championship among boys and girls under 8 years old will be held. This tournament is not just a competition, it is the first step to a great chess future for many young talents.
About the tournament: First steps to the crown
The Ukrainian Championship for children under 8 is a special event. At this age, children demonstrate incredible sincerity, spontaneity and at the same time - amazing concentration and thirst for victory. For many participants, this will be the first serious all-Ukrainian start, an experience that will be remembered for a lifetime. The competition will be held in three disciplines: classical chess, rapid chess (rapid) and blitz (blitz).
Historical background: The history of holding children's championships in Ukraine dates back to the last century. These tournaments have always been a forge of talents. Many famous Ukrainian grandmasters, who today worthily represent our country on the international stage, began their journey precisely with victories in such age categories. For example, Vasyl Ivanchuk, Ruslan Ponomariov, the Muzychuk sisters - they all went through the school of children's national championships.
Venue: Castles, Sakuras and Chess in Mukachevo
The choice of Mukachevo as the venue for the championship is not accidental. It is a city with a rich history, unique culture and an extraordinary atmosphere. Mukachevo is especially beautiful in May: usually at this time the city is drowned in pink cherry blossoms, which creates a fabulous backdrop for the competitions.
Infrastructure: Mukachevo has a developed tourist and sports infrastructure. The city is ready to receive a large number of guests. For participants and their companions, comfortable living conditions are provided in the city's hotels and sanatoriums. The competitions will be held in a modern hall equipped with all the necessary equipment. In addition to chess, guests of the city will be able to enjoy excursions to the famous Palanok Castle, stroll through the ancient streets and try unique dishes of Transcarpathian cuisine.
Participants, ranking and organization
Who can participate? Young chess players who are citizens of Ukraine and were born in 2016 or later are allowed to participate in the championship. Each region of Ukraine and the city of Kyiv have the right to field their best representatives who have passed the qualifying stages.
Rating tournament: The Ukrainian Championship in Classical Chess among children under 8 years old is a rating tournament. The results of the tournament will be taken into account for calculating the national rating of the participants, as well as, under certain conditions, the international FIDE rating. This is an important incentive for young athletes.
Organization: The tournament is held under the auspices of the Chess Federation of Ukraine. The direct organization of the competition is entrusted to local chess organizations and with the support of local authorities.
Prize Fund and Sponsors: Winners and prize-winners in each discipline (boys/girls) will be awarded cups, medals and diplomas. Traditionally, organizers and sponsors prepare valuable gifts and incentive prizes for participants.
