Batumi hosts the continent's best female chess players: European Women's Chess Championship 2026
From May 24 to June 6, 2026, the Georgian city of Batumi will become the arena for the fight for the title of the strongest chess player in Europe. The European Women's Individual Chess Championship is organized by the European Chess Union (ECU) in conjunction with the Georgian Chess Federation.
Georgia, which has a deep tradition of women's chess and has produced legends such as Nona Gaprindashvili and Maya Chiburdanidze, has once again confirmed its status as one of the world's leading chess centers.
🏆 Format and regulations
The tournament will be held according to the highest international standards:

System: Swiss system, 11 rounds.

Time control: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, then 30 minutes until the end of the game with an additional 30 seconds for each move, starting from the first.

Status: The tournament is an official qualifying round for the FIDE Women's World Cup. The best participants will receive direct tickets to this prestigious forum.

The competitions are usually held in luxurious hotels on the Black Sea coast (for example, Sheraton Batumi or Euphoria Hotel), where ideal conditions are created for the players. Batumi is known for its hospitality, modern architecture and magnificent embankment, which makes this tournament one of the most attractive in the ECU calendar.
💰 Prize Fund
The total prize pool of the European Women's Championships is usually €60,000 – €70,000, with the winner receiving around €10,000 – €12,000, and cash prizes are provided for the first 20 places.

The Ukrainian women's team is traditionally among the strongest on the continent. Our leading grandmasters, who always fight for the highest places and medals, are expected to participate.
