From June 1 to 11, 2026, the Italian resort town of Acqui Terme (Piedmont region) will host one of the most important events in the world of chess among veterans - the European Senior Individual Chess Championship 2026. This is a tournament that combines high sportsmanship, long-standing chess traditions and unique Italian hospitality.
About the tournament and organization
The championship is held under the auspices of the European Chess Union (ECU). The competition has a high status, is an official FIDE tournament and provides for FIDE rating, which adds prestige to it at the world level.
Venue and infrastructure
Acqui Terme — is a world-famous spa resort, famous for its thermal springs since the times of the Roman Empire. The Games will be held in the city's modern conference center, located at: Viale Antiche Terme, Acqui Terme. The city's infrastructure provides ideal conditions for peaceful relaxation and concentration, offering participants access to wellness centers, swimming pools and park areas.
Who can participate and conditions
The tournament is open to chess players from European federations who have a FIDE ID and is divided into two main age categories: 50+ and 65+ (separately for men and women).

Terms: Each participant must reach the appropriate age by December 31, 2026.

System: 9 rounds according to the Swiss system.

Time control: 90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 minutes until the end of the game with an additional 30 seconds for each move, starting from the first.
Prize Fund and Opportunities
The total prize fund of the tournament is 18,000 euros (10,000 euros + 8,000 euros from ECU). The winners in each category receive the titles of «European Senior Chess Champion 2026», and the prize-winners (top 3) guarantee themselves the right to participate in the World Senior Chess Championship 2027 with preferential accommodation conditions.
