Chess Olympus in Stavanger: Norway Chess 2026
Chess Olympus in Stavanger: Norway Chess 2026
Dear chess fans! May and June 2026 will be a time of real chess celebration, as the world's strongest grandmasters will once again gather in the picturesque Norwegian city of Stavanger. This is one of the most prestigious and innovative tournaments on the world chess calendar — Norway Chess 2026.
About the Tournament: Innovation and Excitement
Dates: May 25 – June 5, 2026
Norway Chess has earned a reputation as a tournament that is not afraid of experimentation. Its main feature is a unique format aimed at minimizing the number of quick draws and making every game spectacular.
If a classic game ends in a draw, the opponents immediately play an "Armageddon" game (a blitz where White has more time but is obliged to win). This ensures that a winner is determined every game day and the spectators get a dose of adrenaline.
Rating and Status: Norway Chess is a top-tier rating tournament (Super Tournament). Its world ranking is extremely high, and a win here is equivalent to winning the most prestigious competition of the year.
