Spring triumph in Kolomyia: Youth Championship of Ukraine-2026 in draughts-64

This spring, the entire Ukrainian draughts community is turning its attention to the picturesque Carpathian region. The ancient and hospitable city of Kolomyia is once again becoming an arena for uncompromising intellectual struggle — the Ukrainian Draughts-64 Youth Championship is being held here. This competition — is not just a tournament, it is a battle for prestige, a title and the right to represent Ukraine at the international level.
Historical background and tournament status
The Ukrainian Youth Draughts-64 Championships have a rich and glorious history. This is a traditional stage of selecting the best young talents in the country. It was from these competitions that many future grandmasters and world champions, of whom Ukraine is proud today, began their journey.
Organization and auspices: The tournament is held under the auspices of the Draughts Federation of Ukraine (DFU), with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the local authorities of Kolomyia. This guarantees a high level of organization and strict adherence to the rules.
Rating and qualification: The championship is an official rating tournament. The results of the games are taken into account when calculating the national rating of the FSU. Also, depending on the composition of the participants, the tournament may be submitted for calculation of the international rating (IDF).
The main intrigue: The tournament is a qualifying one. The winners and prize-winners in the classical program receive the right to represent Ukraine at the World Championship and the European Youth Championship in 2026.

The competition is hosted by the city of Kolomyia — one of the most famous cultural and historical centers of Western Ukraine. It is a city where the spirit of antiquity harmoniously combines with modern life.
Tournament location: The official venue for the competition was Kolomyy Lyceum No. 9. This educational institution has a modern infrastructure, spacious game halls and all the necessary conditions for a comfortable stay for participants and judges. The Lyceum has repeatedly hosted all-Ukrainian draughts forums, which confirms its readiness for events of this scale.

Participants and tournament conditions

Juniors and youth: U26 and U19 — experienced strategists, many of whom already have adult titles.

Cadets and Junior Cadets: U16 and U13 — the golden mean, where technique is combined with youthful enthusiasm.

Young hopes: U10 and the youngest participants under 8 years old (U8). This is where future stars are born, for whom Kolomyia can be the beginning of a great sporting journey.

Sponsors and prize pool
Sponsors: The main partners of the tournament are state sports structures (Department of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration) and Kolomyia City Council. Local patrons and private companies interested in the development of intellectual sports among youth also join in supporting the tournament.
Prize Fund: Formed from registration fees and sponsorship funds. Winners and prize-winners in all three programs (separately among boys and girls) will be awarded medals, diplomas of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, as well as gross prizes from sponsors. In addition to the main prizes, special prizes are often established for «For the best game», «For the youngest participant» and others.
