This spring, ancient Podillia will become the epicenter of intellectual battles. From April 24 to May 3, 2026, Khmelnytskyi will host the Ukrainian Chess Championship among boys and girls under 18. This is not just a competition, but the main test for the generation that will represent Ukraine on the world stage tomorrow.

About the tournament: three disciplines and high stakes

The competition is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the Chess Federation of Ukraine. The tournament has a IV rank and is an official rating event, the results of which affect the international FIDE rating.

The championship program is extremely rich and includes three disciplines:

  • Classical chess: 9 rounds according to the Swiss system.

  • Rapid game: dynamic games with control of 10 minutes + 5 seconds per move.

  • Blitz game (blitz): fastest decisions — 3 minutes + 2 seconds per move.

Who can become a participant?

Young men and women born in 2008 and younger from all over Ukraine participate in the championship. Main conditions for participation:

  1. Qualification: not lower than 3rd category.

  2. Documents: availability of an insurance policy and confirmation of sports qualifications.

Prize Fund and Trips Around the World

The main award — is not just medals and diplomas. The winners (1st and 2nd places) in classical chess receive the right to represent Ukraine at the World Championship and the European Championship in 2026. This is a direct path to major international sport.

Venue: Khmelnytskyi and «SV Club»

The tournament will be held in the modern health and entertainment complex «SV Club» (1A Svobody St.). This is a multifunctional location with a developed infrastructure that provides comfortable conditions for playing and relaxing.

Historical background: Khmelnytskyi (formerly Proskuriv) — a city with a centuries-old history, standing on the banks of the Southern Bug. It is famous for its hospitality and is one of the most important trade and cultural hubs of Podillia. For participants, this is an opportunity to see the monument to Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, walk through cozy squares and feel the spirit of the city, which actively develops sports traditions.

Star names and history of victories

The U18 Ukrainian Championships have always been a "forge of talent". At one time, such grandmasters as Ruslan Ponomariov, Vasyl Ivanchuk, and Anna Muzychuk passed through such youth championships. Today, on the chessboards of Khmelnytskyi, we will see those who already have high national ratings and experience of international performances.
