Lviv is once again becoming a chess capital! In March 2026, the city of Lviv will host the country's strongest young chess players at the Ukrainian Championship among juniors and juniors under 20.

This is not just a competition, but the main stage of selection for the national team of Ukraine to participate in international tournaments of the world and European level in 2026.

Period of implementation

The competition will run from March 20 to 29, 2026.

  • March 21–27: Classical chess (9 rounds).

  • March 28: Rapid.

  • March 29: Blitz chess.

Venue and infrastructure

The tournament will be held in a picturesque corner of Lviv at the address: 65 Medova Pechera St., on the basis of the hotel and restaurant complex "Medova Pechera". This is a cozy place that combines comfortable accommodation and professional conditions for gaming halls, providing participants with the opportunity to fully concentrate on the game.

Historical Reference and Status

Lviv has a deep chess tradition, being home to many world-class grandmasters. The championship is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the Chess Federation of Ukraine. The competition is officially rated, allowing participants to increase their international and national ratings.

Participants and conditions of participation

Young men and women born in 2006 and younger, who have a qualification of no lower than 2nd category, are allowed to participate. The number of participants is not limited, which makes the tournament as open as possible to talented youth from all over Ukraine.

Prizvyy fond ta nagorodi

Winners and prize-winners (1-3 places) are awarded state-standard diplomas and medals. In addition to prestige, the first two prize-winners in classical chess receive the official right to represent Ukraine at the World Championship and European Championship in 2026. The event is financed by the State Budget and extra-budgetary funds.
