From March 9 to 15, 2026, the city of Khmelnytskyi will turn into the intellectual capital of Ukraine. The best young strategists of the country will come here to fight for the titles of Ukrainian champions in classical chess among girls and boys in the age category up to 14 years. This tournament is not just a competition, it is a test of endurance, depth of calculation and psychological resilience for future grandmasters.
About the tournament and organization
The competition is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the Chess Federation of Ukraine. The direct organization on site is provided by the Khmelnytskyi Regional Chess Federation.
-

-
Time control: Classical chess (90 minutes per game for each participant with an additional 30 seconds for each move made).
-
Participation conditions: Boys and girls born in 2012 and younger who have passed the selection at the regional stages and have the appropriate sports qualification (not lower than the 1st category) are allowed to participate in the competition.
Historical Reference and Star Names
The Ukrainian Championships in the age categories up to 14 years are traditionally a "springboard" into the big sport. At one time, such legends as Ruslan Ponomariov (the youngest world champion), Sergey Karjakin, Vasyl Ivanchuk and Anna and Maria Muzychuk passed through these children's crucibles. It is at such tournaments that players who later raise the Ukrainian flag at the Chess Olympiads first make themselves known.
Today, Ukrainian junior chess has a high world rating. The winners of this tournament receive the right to represent Ukraine at the World and European Championships, where our athletes traditionally enter the TOP-10 of the strongest nations.
Venue: Khmelnytskyi - the heart of Podillia
The tournament will be hosted by one of the city's central hotel complexes — Hotel "Podillia" (14 Shevchenko St.). This is a historical part of the city, providing ideal infrastructure for participants:
-
Game halls: A spacious area that meets all sanitary standards and FIDE requirements for lighting and silence.
-
Accommodation and meals: Participants and accompanying persons have the opportunity to live directly at the venue, which minimizes logistical fatigue.
-
Cultural program: Nearby are the Mykhailo Chekman Park, a theater, and the central pedestrian street Proskurivska, where city guests can relax after busy tours.
Prize Fund and Sponsors
The prize fund is formed at the expense of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as with the support of local sponsors and patrons of the chess movement of the Khmelnytskyi region. In addition to cups, medals and diplomas, prizewinners often receive valuable gifts - modern gadgets and chess literature. Sponsorship support is also provided by local IT companies, which emphasizes the connection between intellectual sports and technologies.
