Ahead of the grand finale on December 25, 2025 in St. Petersburg, the 2024-2025 International Draughts Federation (IDF) Men's and Women's Draughts-64 World Cup is nearing its climax.

The Road to the Final: Six Stages and 308 Participants

The 2024-2025 World Cup season was a real marathon, bringing together 308 athletes from 18 countries around the world. Participants competed at six prestigious stages held in Turkey (Kemer, Alanya), Uzbekistan (Tashkent) and Mongolia (Ulaanbaatar). Each stage included separate programs, where athletes competed for valuable rating points that go towards the overall World Cup standings.

The main goal of the competition, according to the IDF Regulations, is not only to identify the strongest players, but also to improve sportsmanship, award international titles, and qualify for the 2026 World Championship.

Tournament Grid: Leaders after Stage Six

The intense competition continued throughout all six stages. Due to the high tournament density and the system of points for occupied places, every performance was of critical importance.

  • In the men's, the lead after the sixth stage was taken by International Grandmaster Mazhit Sarshaev (Russia), who scored 769 points. However, his advantage is not decisive, as International Master Ivan Ilyasov (Russia) is breathing down his neck with 725 points. Among the top contenders are also International Grandmasters Andriy Valiuk (Belarus, 693 points) and Alexander Getmansky (Russia, 681 points). The competition for the prize places remains extremely intriguing. Among women, the fight for the title of Winner has also reached its highest point. The ranking is led by a significant margin by International Master among women Anastasia Arkhangelskaya (Russia), who scored 405 points. The second and third positions are closely fought between Tunaara Fedorova (Russia, WIM, 376 points) and International Grandmaster among women Nika Leopoldova (Russia, WIGM, 375 points).

    Awards and International Titles

The final ceremony on December 12, 2025 in St. Petersburg will be the moment of truth. The overall score is determined by the sum of points scored by participants in all programs of the stages played.

Prestigious titles and qualifications are at stake:

    1. The title "World Cup Winner 2024-2025" among men and women, with awards of cups, medals and diplomas.

    2. International titles:

      • Participants who finish 1st–3rd among men and 1st among women in the overall World Cup standings receive the title of International Grandmaster (IGM).

      • Participants who place 4th–6th among men and 2nd–3rd among women receive the title International Master (IM).

    3. Qualification for the 2026 World Cup: The winners of the men's and women's World Cups will qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Given the small gap in the men's standings and the high competition among the women, the final results promise to be sensational. The world of checkers is eagerly awaiting the solemn summing up of the results and the identification of new stars in the classic 64-square game.
