European Women's Rapid and Blitz Championships 2025
Monaco will once again become the center of European chess: Women's European Championship 2025
From 8 to 12 January 2026, the Principality of Monaco will host one of the most anticipated events in the world of chess, the European Women's Rapid and Blitz Championship 2025. The tournament will be held under the patronage of the European Chess Union (ECU) and with the support of the Monaco Chess Federation.
Venue: Luxury Monte Carlo
The tournament will be hosted by the prestigious Novotel Monte-Carlo hotel. This venue has already become a traditional venue for elite women's competitions. The organizers promise not only impeccable playing conditions, but also a record prize fund, which this year reached €52,500.
Championship Schedule
The competition is divided into two dynamic disciplines:
-
Blitz (January 8–9): 13 rounds Swiss system. Time control: 3 minutes + 2 seconds per move.
-
Rapid (January 10–11): 11 rounds Swiss system. Time control: 15 minutes + 10 seconds per move.
Participants' Lineup: Stars at the Start
Although the full list is still being formed, the participation of the leaders of the European ranking has already been confirmed on the official website. Traditionally, the "top" of the chess world gathers in Monaco.
Main favorites and expected names:
-
Anna Ushenina (Ukraine) is the reigning European rapid champion who will defend her title.
-
Olexandra Malcewska (Poland) is the blitz champion.
-
Sarasadat Khademalsharieh (Spain) is one of the strongest female grandmasters in the world.
-
Yulia Osmak (Ukraine) — consistently ranks in the top three of European forums.
-
Olexandra Kosteniuk (Switzerland) is a chess legend who always fights for the "gold".
Historical context and Ukrainian dominance
This championship is not just another tournament. It has a special meaning for Ukraine. Last year, our girls proved their superiority: Anna Ushenina won gold in rapid and silver in blitz, and Yulia Osmak took bronze in rapid.
Monaco continues to hold the label of "women's chess capital", setting prize funds that exceed similar open (men's) championships. This is an important step towards gender equality in intellectual sports.
