The International Checkers Association of North America (ICAONA), the official American national federation for International Draughts/Checkers, is proud to announce the US Open Championship 2025. This tournament is a key event for the world of checkers, combining an open international format with the function of a US National Championship.

Location, Dates and Types of Competitions

  • Dates: The competition will take place from November 21 to November 30, 2025.
    • November 21: Check-in and technical briefing.
    • November 30: Departure.

  • Location: The tournament will be held at Best Western Plus Atlantic Beach Resort, Miami Beach, Florida, USA. The hotel is located approximately 17 km from MIA Airport and 45 km from FLL.

  • Disciplines: Participants will compete in three categories:
    • Classic (main tournament).
    • Rapid (fast checkers).
    • Blitz.

The main Classic tournament will consist of 8 rounds according to the Swiss system.

  • Time control: For Classics, the preliminary control is 1 hour 20 minutes + 1 minute of added time per move.

  • Classic Schedule: Rounds will be held from November 24 to 29. It is noteworthy that Round 6 will be held on November 27 (on Thanksgiving Day), and Round 7 will be held on November 28 (on Black Friday).

  • Rapid: There will be 7 rounds according to the Swiss system (November 22–23) with a time control of 15 minutes +15 seconds per move.

  • Blitz: The tournament will take place on November 29 at 14:30 after the last round of the Classic. Time control: 5 minutes +3 seconds per move.

Participation, Qualification and Prizes

  • Participation: The tournament is open to everyone, but there are separate requirements for participation in the National Championship.

  • USA Qualification: This event is the official 2025 USA National Championship for active ICAONA members who are permanent residents of the USA.

    • Grand Prize: The 2025 USA Classic Champion will qualify to represent the USA at the 2026 Pan-Am Championship.

    • Membership: US players who are not members of the federation must pay $100 USD to participate in the national competition.

  • Prizes: Awards (trophies and cash prizes) are provided for the top places in all three categories.

  • Women's Prize: A separate prize for the Best Women's Result in the Classic will be awarded if three or more women participate.

Registration, Accommodation and Contacts

  • Registration deadline: October 15, 2025. Due to space limitations, organizers encourage early registration.

  • Participation fees:

    • Main Classic Tournament: $120 USD ($20 USD of which is a non-refundable deposit).
    • Rapid: $30 USD.
    • Blitz: $20 USD.
