Basic information and venue

  • Venue: Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia.

  • Organizers: Chess Union of Serbia under the auspices of FIDE.

  • Dates: November 4 - November 14, 2025.

    • Arrival date: November 4th.
    • Departure date: November 14.
  • Game venue: Conference hall of the Zepter Hotel.

  • Format: 9 rounds Swiss system.

  • Time control: 90 minutes for 40 moves, then 30 minutes until the end of the game with an additional 30 seconds per move, starting from the first.

Categories and requirements for participants

The tournament is open to players whose FIDE rating did not exceed 2300 during the year prior to the registration deadline. A total of 6 titles will be contested in three main rating categories (Open and Women separately):

  • U2300 Category:

    • Maximum rating: 2300.
    • Prohibited titles: International Master (IM), Women's International Master (WIM), Grandmaster (GM), Women's Grandmaster (WGM).
  • U2000 Category:

    • Maximum rating: 2000.
    • Prohibited titles: FIDE Master (FM), FIDE Women's Master (WFM), and all higher titles.
  • Category U1700:

    • Maximum rating: 1700.
    • Prohibited titles: FIDE Master (FM), FIDE Women's Master (WFM), and all higher titles.

Note: If the women's section has fewer than 10 participants from at least 2 continents, it will be merged with the open section.

Prize Fund (total fund: 15,000 EURO) and titles

Open U2300 Prizes (Total Fund €7500):

  • 1st place: €2000 and the title of FIDE Master (FM).
  • 2nd place: €1,500 and the title of Candidate Master (CM).
  • 3rd place: €1000 and the title of Candidate Master (CM).

Prizes Women U2300 (total €2000):

  • 1st place (women's category): €1000 and the title FIDE Women's Master (WFM).
  • 2nd place (women's category): €600 and the title Women's Candidate Master (WCM).
  • 3rd place (women's category): €400 and the title Women's Candidate Master (WCM).

Open U2000 Prizes (Total Fund €4500):

  • 1st place: €1,500 and the title of FIDE Master (FM).
  • 2nd place: €1000 and the title of Candidate Master (CM).
  • 3rd place: €500 and the title of Candidate Master (CM).

Women U2000 Prizes (total €1500):

  • 1st place (women's category): €700 and the title FIDE Women's Master (WFM).
  • 2nd place (women's category): €500 and the title Women's Candidate Master (WCM).
  • 3rd place (women's category): €300 and the title Women's Candidate Master (WCM).

Open U1700 Prizes (Total Fund €3000):

  • 1st place: €1000 and the title of Candidate for Master (CM).
  • 2nd place: €600 and the title of Candidate for Master (CM).
  • 3rd place: €400 and the title of Candidate Master (CM).

Women U1700 Prizes (total €1000):

  • 1st place (women's category): €500 and the title Women's Candidate Master (WCM).
  • 2nd place (women's category): €300 and the title Women's Candidate Master (WCM).
  • 3rd place (women's category): €200 and the title Women's Candidate Master (WCM).

Historical Facts and Qualifications

  • Origins: The first FIDE amateur championships were held in 1924 and 1928, associated with the Olympic Games.

  • Location: Vrnjačka Banja is known as the "queen of Serbian spa tourism" and has the status of a chess symbol, hosting the European Championship and European Club Cups in 2023 and 2024.

  • Qualification for 2026: All six winners (1st place in each Open and Women section) receive a personal invitation to the next FIDE World Amateur Championship (2026) with free accommodation and meals.
