Baturyn: A City That Remembers
In Chernihiv region, on the banks of the Seym River, is the city of Baturyn. It has a special place in the history of Ukraine, as it was once the magnificent capital of the Hetmanate. The city's Memorial Day is a time when we remember its past: the glorious times of its heyday and the tragic events that forever changed its fate.
From the center hetman power to ruin
However, this story of prosperity was interrupted in the fall of 1708. The city was surrounded, and after fierce resistance, the enemy army broke into it. A terrible tragedy occurred, as a result of which all the residents remaining in Baturyn died, and the city itself was completely destroyed and burned.
The city that rose from the ashes
For many years, Baturyn remained just a small settlement, its ruins testifying to its past greatness. But the memory of it lived on. Today, Baturin is a symbol of revival.
Thanks to efforts aimed at preserving the historical heritage, many architectural monuments were restored and the National Historical and Cultural Reserve "Hetman's Capital" was established.
The rebuilt fortress, the Hetman's Palace and other objects are now tell visitors the history of the city. Everything here reminds us of the past, but also gives hope for the future.
