  • Both tournaments are part of the qualification for the World Championship cycle, where the top two players in the Open qualify for the 2026 Candidates Tournament, and the top two players from the Women's Grand Swiss qualify for the Women's Grand Swiss 2026.
  • Eleven rounds will be played according to the Swiss system, with 170 players from all continents participating: 114 in the Grand Swiss and 56 players in the Women's Grand Swiss.

The total prize pool is $855,000, of which $625,000 is for the Grand Swiss and $230,000 is for the Women's Grand Swiss.

The Grand Swiss tournament, held every two years, brings together many of the world's strongest chess players and is considered one of the most difficult chess tournaments to win.

The first Grand Swiss was held in 2019 on the Isle of Man and was won by GM Wang Hao, who scored 8/11. The 2021 tournament was moved from the Isle of Man to Riga due to Covid restrictions and was won by GM Alireza Firuja in the open championship and Lei Tingze in the inaugural women's tournament. The 2023 Grand Swiss was won by Indian Vidit Gujrati in the open championship and Vaishali Rameshbabu in the women's competition.

Grand Swiss (Open Tournament)

The tournament will feature 114 players. Among them are young Indian chess stars:
Erigaisi Arjun

  • Gukesh D, the reigning World Champion
  • Pragnanandhaa R
  • Nodirbek Abdusattorov from Uzbekistan
  • Alireza Firouzja

Also participating are experienced grandmasters such as Jan Nepomniachtchi, Anish Giri and Levon Aronian. Among the participants are also Ukrainian chess players, including Pavlo Elyanov, Vasyl Ivanchuk, Anton Korobov and Ruslan Ponomariov.

Women’s Grand Swiss

The women’s tournament will feature 56 chess players. The following will play:

  • Tan Zhongyi
  • Humpy Koneru
  • Anna Muzychuk
  • Kateryna Lagno

2023 winner Vaishali Rameshbabu
And also promising young talents.

The FIDE Grand Swiss is a relatively new tournament held every two years. Its winners have been:

2023: Vidit Santosh Gujrathi and Vaishali Rameshbabu in the women's tournament.
